The Improved Pension with Aid and Attendance Benefit is one of the most misunderstood benefits being administered by the Veterans Administration (VA) today. Many families who attempt to complete the 20 page application put down inaccurate information and miss many of the detailed supporting documents that may be required. This leads to delays, denials and much frustration causing many families to give up. At our offices we hear over and over, "we wish we’d have known about your services before we talked to _______."
The Improved Pension has been in existence since 1951, but because of the multi-faceted requirements needed when applying, a great deal of incorrect information is being distributed over the internet and passed around in communities all over the US. We come across veterans or their surviving spouses daily that have been told they are not eligible, when actually they are able to qualify.
Because of the high workload in all VA offices, their representatives can only provide the basic requirements of the benefits and will not explore all options. Many people are told by the VA that they are not qualified, when in fact they would qualify. The key is asking the right questions. We have already asked the right questions and we would like to share that knowledge with you. We have educated over 390,000 wartime veterans and their families over the last six years and are well on our way of meeting our education goal of 100,000,000 veterans by 2013.
In order to help families through the rigorous process of completing the VA application, we have trained Professional Members of AAWV who conduct free informational seminars to relay the basic information on what is needed when applying. If families want an in-depth review of the veteran or spouse's personal situation, these Professional Member of AAWV will meet one-on-one to answer all personal questions that you may not want to be brought up in a group environment.
